Divide the cake

A farmer dies and leaves behind some property to be inherited by his two sons. The property consists of many small patches of land.
The brothers have not been able to reach a fair division. They have also rejected the various divisions, suggested by the village elders. Every time one of the brother would find fault with the division and would walk away.
Now the village headman nominates you to find an amicable solution.
How are you going to do an equitable distribution?
